韓国の友達 My korean friend

留学をしていた時に語学学校で出会った韓国人の友達が、先週京都に遊びに来ました。すごく可愛くて優しい女の子で、最近はお互い韓国と日本に遊びに行き、年に2回くらい会っています。
祇園や先斗町のバーに行ったり、鴨川を歩いたり、すごくすごく楽しかったです♪



My korean friend, who I met at a language school, visited Kyoto this week. She is very sweet and cute, and we usually see each other about twice a year when I visit her in Korea or she comes to Japan. We went to Gion, then hit a bar in Ponto-cho, and afterward walked along a beautiful riverside in downtown Kyoto. I love hanging out with with her, it's really fun!

元同期 ex-coworkers

I went out with an ex-coworker who travels between China and
Tokyo for her job. The restaurant we went to is called ICHIFUJI, a small kyoto house near Shijyo-Kareasuma. The food is nice and their service is high class. It is always good to see friends.

四条烏丸の一知富士というお店に行ってきました。料理もおいしかったのですが、お店の方のサービスがすごく良くてびっくりしました。
いつも二人と会うと、とても楽しいです。

五山の送り火 (大文字焼き） Gozan no Okuribi (Daimonji Yaki)

先週の日曜日に、88歳になる祖母と母と一緒にに大文字を見てきました。大文字は、京都の古くからの伝統行事で、8月16日の夜、京の５山に6種類の炎の文字が描かれます。
これは、亡くなった方の魂を天にお送りする為におこなわれると伝えられています。　歴史の街京都のとても素敵な夏の行事です。




My 88year old grandmother, my mom and I saw Daimonji yaki together on Sunday.Daimonji yaki is one of the oldest traditions in Kyoto.It is the night time celebratory burning of 6 Japanese characters on 5 different mountains in August 16th. It was originally supposed to light the way for dead people’s spirits into the after life.The daimonji yaki are a beautiful traditional for the historic city of Kyoto.

デパチカ grocery section in the bottom of department stores

デパチカに行ってきました。　デパチカはデパートの地下にある食料品コーナーのことで、たくさんの　食品やお惣菜が売られています。　買い物の後にデパチカに寄るのが楽しみです☆

I went to the "depachika", which is a grocery section in the bottom of many department stores. There are a variety of foods and snacks, and I always head down there after sgopping to get treat!

カーネルサンダース （Colonel Harland Sanders）

KFCの創業者のカーネルサンダース人形です。KFCが日本でオープンした当初、多くの人が、床屋と間違えて中に入ったそうです。カーネルおじさんの人形を置いた後は、誰も間違えなくなったそうですよ（笑）

This is Colonel Harland Sanders, the man who founded Kentucky Fried Chicken. When KFC first opened in Japan, many people thought that the store was a hair salon, then, every KFC in Japan has his statue in front of the store, so no one is mistaken.

かわいいカフェ （Cute cafe ）

友達と可愛いカフェに行って、チョコレートケーキとアイスコーヒーをたのみました。　ケーキには手作りアイスクリームがついていて、すごくおいしかったです。　このカフェは烏丸御池にあって、二階はお漬物屋さんでした。

I went to a cute cafe with my friend and ordered chocolate cake and iced coffee.The cake also came with hand made ice cream. It was so good!The cafe is located in Karasuma Oike and there is a tsikemono store (japanese pickles) store upstairs.

ラーメン Ramen restaurant

四条烏 丸の大丸の隣にある魁力屋でしょうゆ ラーメンを食べました。 おいしかったです♪

I went to a ramen restaurant called "kairikiya" in shizyo karasuma (next to daimaru) and ordered the soy sauce ramen. It was good!

すごい果物 （Eccentric Fruit）

このメロンは2個で￥23,100!!　値段を見間違えたかと思いました!
This two melon gift package costs close to $230 US. I thought I had misread the price!

このマンゴーは￥21,000...絶対おいしいはず！！
This mango is also selling for $230. Must be delicious!
